That's ok.  When we run out, we'll probably just come take yours.  God said it's ok.

I'm actually interested in how government debt works.  The money has to come from somewhere, doesn't it?  They can't just be "printing" new money, otherwise they wouldn't actually owe it.  So who is lending money to an organisation that obviously has no intention of ever paying back the loan, and in fact borrows more money every year?  And why are they doing it?

Man, I remember the good old days, when I bought my brother a Detroit Red Wings jersey from River City Sports in Winnipeg. I had it customized with his last name and favorite number, and with shipping, it only cost me $37 US.

1)  We make our minnimum payments and any creditor will tell you that that is their ideal client (payment + all that interest)

2)  The American Government has a large amount of collatoral in the form of federal land, natural resources and historical novelties (Lincoln's mummified cock)

3)  Political favors

Yot,

Yeah, if they weren't so stupidly expensive I would have several more jerseys than I do.  The two I own are ones I bought for playing floorhockey (Penguins dark and Sharks white), and neither of them have a name or number because that would've pushed the price over $100.

I'm willing to accept that the whole "all money is created as debt" thing is a scam, but people who try to equate tax with theft are stupid.  Without taxes, there would be no interstates, no space program and no tsunami monitoring system.

lwf's link is pretty accurate, although I imagine the quotes that end the piece are way out of context. Here is a slightly easier to understand link with more context. The difference between lwf and I, is that I think that this system is necessary and beneficial because the without central bank reserves you will get bank failures and panics etc. The only alternative is to end fractional reserve banking and return to the gold standard (or some other such standard) which would drastically retract the available money supply and would retard investment and growth in the economy.

So, more importantly, which thread should become the new sports thread? Or should we just flashmob any thread we want?

Use this one. We've already got plenty of US election threads.

You should use all the threads as sports threads.  And just respond to one sports message in a totally different thread.

I am curious: How did all of your local elections go?

We have the same Senator, who we all love. Most of our congressman remained the same, except for a couple new guys.  We have a new attorney general, our secretary of state is the same, and our governer race is SUPER CLOSE. Even now they are not calling it for any side because the vote has been swinging back and forth as time goes on.

It all comes down to the anti-civil rights pro-big business Republican jerkface, and the fiscally moderate former Attorney General pro-civil rights Democrat bitch.  God I love America.

All of our incumbents won. No big changes in state offices, but a couple of truly odious ballot measures passed (including an anti-gay marriage measure).

To whom do we owe the national debt?  I heard that a large portion of it is owed to the saudis.  They are happy to give us high interest loans, and bush is happy to take them up on it.

Why don't you just set one up on Yahoo?  I'd do it, but I don't want to take part.  While I'm merely disinterested in baseball, I actively hate the NBA.  Everything that's wrong with pro sports is concentrated in the NBA.

We could do one on the newest Canadian 'reality tv' show: Making the Cut or whatever it's called. Where they get a bunch of junior players and train them and let them show their stuff in front of scouts.

I watched a bit of the first episode, and about 2 minutes of another one, and that was enough.  It's got too much reality tv crap in it.  If it was just a documentary about a hockey training camp, without any stupid excommunication rituals, I'd watch.

Now for something that isn't out of the god damn thread stone age.
Reality television is a obvious white stain on the shirt of television programming.
I might have felt good to make that big white stain, but it sure as hell isn't very pleasent to look at.
I had hoped that the CBC would avoid being a part of that splooge.

I hope all you of you new people are reading UAC and clicking on the ads.  And if you're going to pimp it in your sig, link it.  People are lazy.

Regarding the Red Wings, don't be silly.  The teams that should be folded are in cities that don't know shit about hockey.  Like Tampa (who realistically should be moved rather than folded, because they're too good), Florida, Nashville, Atlanta, Carolina, Annaheim and Columbus.  And if Yotsuya ever moves, I'd fold the Coyotes too.
