People turned out to say no to fags.  11 state referendums on gay marriage/civil union.  Bush rode that right to a second term.

So, more importantly, which thread should become the new sports thread? Or should we just flashmob any thread we want?

Hey, go ahead and believe that Bush is stupid and that he's truly Christian. That's obviously what he wants you to believe.

pc died last week, so i went out and got a new ibook.  delicious unix with a hard candy shell.

I've also been using some OS X 10.3 lately, on a G4 tower system.  Unlike Linux it is very nice.

From a developer standpoint, Xcode isn't nearly as nice as Visual Studio .NET 2005, but it beats any other Unix development system by a wide margin.

Sorry, world.  I voted for Kerry...

Visual Studio X beats out every development environment out there. XCode and Project Builder to a lesser degree before that come in a far second.

I do think that Gay Marriage was an important factor and the incidents of San Francisco and Portland trying to undemocratically ram it down the people's throats help drive the "moral" voting that backed Bush.

Shadarr-

What do you think about the cracks in the player's union? Apparently a couple of guys have come out and said that they would accept a salary cap if it stopped the lockout.

Tom Edsall, political reporter for The Washington Post:

"It looks that Bush is coming in with a lot stronger mandate than most people had thought," Edsall said. "I think if anything, he's going to feel more confident pressing and continuing the conservative agenda that he promoted during his four years."

John Titor:

The President or leader in 2005 I believe tried desperately to be the next Lincoln and hold the country together but many of their policies drove a larger wedge into the Bill of Rights

I wonder how Bush's corporate friends would feel about me going on a big credit spending spree and then later, when they want to collect the money they loaned to me, I tell them "Sorry guys, I just don't have it, want to loan me some more money?".

It really is quite amusing.

I want the union broken.  There was a great column I read the other day pointing out that the majority of the players would be unaffected by a salary cap.  And in fact the player's union should be fulfilling the same role as the Screen Actor's Guild.  Tom Hanks doesn't need the SAG fighting for better pay for extras, but the SAG needs Tom Hanks.  The amount of money that guys making less than a million per are losing, while this thing drags on, is money that they won't ever get back.  And it's money they would get under a salary cap.

Unfortunately I can't find the link because I don't remember where I saw it.

Actually, the thing I think is hillarious is how 1/3 of NHL players are playing in Europe right now, for far less money, stealing other players' jobs... to fight against exactly that sort of situation in the NHL.  Like the man says, they are scabs.

Another interesting thing I saw about the NHL strike is that the commissioner said teams are losing less money now by not playing than they do when they are playing. If that is true -- how do I  know -- that's an amazing thing. Certainly doesn't bode well for the game if the sides stick to their guns.

I'm willing to lose a whole season or more, if it means that the owners are able to do what needs to be done to fix the league.  If there had been a salary cap, the Jets wouldn't have had to move.  Quebec probably would have, because they just didn't have the fan support.  Fucking French.

I also hope that the league folds a bunch of teams.  That would go a long way toward improving the on-ice quality.

Over 76% of hockey revenues go to salaries, compared to 64% with the NFL and 57% with the NBA.

Well, if the owners just had an under-the-table handshake agreement on a salary cap, the players union would accuse them of collusion.

The players and the owners are at fault, yes, but the big money guys are looking out for themselves and not the little guys. They are a "union" in name only.

Greg-

Over 76% of hockey revenues go to salaries, compared to 64% with the NFL and 57% with the NBA.

That would agree with the commissioner then. Cause only 24% of revenue is left over for other expenses (and potential profit), compared to 36 and 43, respectively.
